DJ Sessions

Now, the making of a good compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many do’s and don’ts. First of all you’re using someone else’s poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing.

Brief CV of villanies performed under the noms-du-guerre DJ Annayn or DJ Chaovsky:

  • 2001: Weekly section in La Escalera Sin Peldaños radio show, Radio Enlace, Madrid.
  • 2003-2004: Weekly show in Radio Darkspain (live audio collage).
  • 2004-2005: Resident DJ @ Angst Club (Madrid).
  • Guest DJ @ Vamp Cave (Madrid, 2004), Dark Sonne (Las Palmas Gran Canaria, 2004), La Cripta (Madrid, 2005), Vampiria (Madrid, 2005), Bogui Jazz Club (Madrid, 2006), Portinho Project (A Coruña, 2007), Transmission Club (Madrid, 2008), Café Torgal (Ourense, 2008) and Dark Market @ Duncker Club (Berlin, 2009-2010).

My speciality and personal trademark is a dark ambient, ritual, jazz, folk noir and spoken word collage with which I create dense and engulfing atmospheres that range from the unsettling and disturbing to the emotive and melancholic, depending on my mood. In my sessions you can expect to listen to anything ranging from Coph Nia, Raison d’etre or Current 93 to Tom Waits, Billie Holiday or Jacques Brel, with Angelo Badalamenti, Nick Cave, Portishead, Lydia Lunch, Rozz Williams or Coil in between to create a very specific mood: that of being trapped inside the Red Room from Twin Peaks (what would I be doing without the influence of Mr. Lynch’s work, I wonder?).

Besides this, I’ve also done a good number of more upbeat sessions consisting mainly of swing, neo-swing, rockabilly, cabaret, circus music and klezmer, with some punk/psychobilly thrown in when the occasion demanded it.
