And at last, the first Really Good One came along. "Elohim" was the synthesis of everything I had learnt up to that moment, and you had it all there: experimental dark ambient atmospheres, ritual percussions, solemn vocals, great martial tracks like "The Thunder, Perfect Mind"... It all added up to a very balanced album, with a good sound quality (still raw, but powerful), focused compositions (not so much doodling around with sounds as much as really doing something with them) and a fantastic artwork. It was the first time Ricardo Marichal and I worked together and I knew from the first moment he was my man for the job. It's a great album, honestly. If you want to grasp the essence of Morpheus in only one recording, this is the one you have to get your hands on, because it's the only one in which you have that perfect equilibrium between the sound and attitude of my first works and the more polished and "arty" style of the latter ones. Besides this, there's not much to say about the process of making the CD, as I can't recall any particular anecdotes from this period. I just remember this feeling of getting where I wanted to, and then looking around and thinking "cool, now what?". I'll tell you: Babylon, that's what. |
